Projects supported by the first round of the Connected Fund

The first round of the Connected Fund, run in May and June 2004, was very popular, and we received a large number of applications. We were able to support 54 projects across England. The details of the organisations and their projects are below.

London

African Francophone Refugee Association UK (Hackney) – A training session for young people from African communities on gun crime, drugs and alcohol issues

AMIS-BK Support Project (Lewisham) – Seminars for young people and their families about the dangers of gun crime, followed by outreach work

Backstage Productions (Lambeth) – Performing a play about gun crime to be shown in schools and community centres

Balik Arts (Haringey) – Production of a film about gun crime with young people in Turkish and Kurdish communities

Big Boss Entertainment (Brent) – Running a music and film workshop for young people who will produce a DVD on gun crime

Congolese Voluntary Organisation (Croydon) – Mentoring scheme on reducing gun crime with young people already involved in their football teams

Eastside Young Leaders' Academy (Newham) – Running a series of workshops on gun crime for young people considered at risk by their schools and social services

Enfield Central African Refugee Community (Enfield) – Running seminars on gun crime for at risk young people and their families

Grace Advice and Services Project (Southwark) – Running training, advice and workshops on gun crime for at risk young people

HewaBora Community Development (Lambeth) – Establishing IT, plumbing and training classes for young people

Horn Stars (Harlesden) – Continuing with a diversionary programme for young Somali people

Integration Via Bantu Group (Barking) – Running basic skills workshops for young people on their local estate

Mercy and Grace of God Youths Ministry (Peckham) – Training workshops, drop-in sessions, other activities for young people involved in gun crime

Migrant Women's Network (Dagenham) – Training for youth leaders and parents in Kenyan and Ugandan communities on crime and disorder issues

Mothers Against Guns London (Greenwich) – Working with victims of gun crime and their families

Outside Chance (Hammersmith) – Presentations to 16 year olds in schools and pupil referral units across London about the consequences of gun-related crime

Outside Edge (Hammersmith) – Production of a play about gun crime that will be performed in schools and pupil referral units

Riverline Pictures (Kensington) – Producing a film with at risk young people about gun crime

Secure Link - Boxing Clever (Haringey) – Boxing workshops in school youth centres for 10-17 year olds

Somali Community Education and Employment Support (Greenwich) – Running gun crime awareness workshops and diversionary activities for young Somali people

Sporting for Tomorrow's Children (Haringey) – Weekly football and basketball activities for under 21s in Haringey, Enfield and Hackney

Tageero (Hillingdon) – After school support for Somali refugee children aged 13-19; gun crime awareness workshops for parents

The African Child (Brent) – Developing a mentoring programme with young people through youth offending teams, parents and schools

The Red Room (Hackney) – Producing a short film with 13-19 year olds about gun culture through educational workshops

Together In Notre Dame (Wandsworth) – Producing a short film about gun crime with young people on the Notre Dame estate

Westminster House Youth Club (Peckham) – Diversionary programme for young people at risk of involvement in gangs and gun crime

Youth Entertainment Studios (Shepherds Bush) – Radio station run by young people, with workshops on gangs, guns and crime.

Handsworth Recreation Groups Ltd (Birmingham) – Recreational activities over the school holidays for 19-25 year olds from diverse backgrounds in Handsworth

Harvest Youth Development Project (Wolverhampton) – Working with young people to plan and produce a gun crime video

Learning Curve (Birmingham) – Running a mentoring project including anti-gun workshops for at risk young people

Pioneers Leading the Way (Birmingham) – Mentoring schemes and diversionary activities for young people in the Pakistani community

South Aston Church Centre (Birmingham) – Extending diversionary activities for 8-18 year olds

St Basils (Birmingham) – Working with young people in gangs living in hostels in Aston; mentoring and education programmes

Venta Millones (Birmingham) – Running outdoor diversionary activities for 15-25 year olds in deprived areas.

SLIC/Moorhouse NW Media Developments (Liverpool) – Diversionary activities for young people in Toxteth through a community radio station

Youth Action (Blackburn) – Running a six-month diversionary programme for young people in deprived wards.
